France 24: Saudi Petrodollars Silenced Global News of Mecca Tragedy

A France 24 reporter says Saudi Arabia’s petrodollars and sponsors forced media outlets in Europe and United States to censor news and reports about this year's Mecca tragedy in which some 7,000 pilgrims were reportedly killed during the Hajj.

Ali Montazeri told an audience of reporters on the sidelines of the 21st Press Fair in Tehran that some pro-Saudi Muslim governments whose nationals were killed in the crowd crush did the same. “This includes their media and news services which preferred to look the other way,” he added.

Speaking on Wednesday, November 11, Montazeri also talked about last year’s nuclear talks between Iran and P5+1, which failed because of the Saudi-Israeli meddling as well as excessive demands by French negotiators.

He added, “French negotiators came up with demands such as Iran dismantling its missile defense program and the United Nations keeping its sanctions in place even after a deal was struck. They did this on purpose, as they knew Iran would reject it.”

The France Press reporter concluded by saying, “American negotiators acted as spoilers too. They gave similar roles to the British and the Germans to ensure the talks would go nowhere. In the end, they blamed Iran for the stalemate which is bizarre. This is while four days prior to their decision to extend the deadline, France 24 had already predicted the outcome.”

France 24 is an international news and current affairs television channel based in Paris. Its stated mission is to "cover international current events from a French perspective and to convey French values throughout the world." It started broadcasting in 2006 and has an office in Tehran.
