President Rouhani’s last press conference in Iranian year
President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday (March 6) attended his final press conference of the current Iranian calendar year – the 12 months to March 20, 2016 –– and fielded questions posed by representatives of domestic and foreign media outlets.
During the press conference which was held at the Islamic Republic of Iran International Conference Center in Tehran with representatives of 40 or so foreign media organizations, reporters from TIMA [a media production company based in London], Aletejah TV, an Iraqi channel, Qatar’s Aljazeera, China’s Phoenix TV Channel and The Wall Street Journal put their questions to the Iranian president.
At the beginning of the press conference, President Rouhani mapped out Iran’s key developments and major achievements this year [started March 21, 2015], chief among them [the conclusion of] the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) [the nuclear deal Iran clinched with five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in July], elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the Assembly of Experts, and the state of Iran’s economy, and later answered the questions posed by reporters.
IRIB’s International Cooperation Department offered free-to-air frequencies to help foreign-based TV channels to give live coverage to the president’s press conference. As a result, a big number of channels aired the Iranian president’s remarks live.
It should be noted that media representatives from Turkey, Britain, the US, France, the Azerbaijan Republic, the People's Republic of China, Lebanon, Qatar, Japan, Iraq, the UAE, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Palestine, and Australia were on hand for the event.
