News conference of Ali Hashem, the director of the office Al Mayadin Lebanon, with the subject of " The crisis of truth-telling in the media"
28 Oct. 2017
In the past few years, huge changes have happened in the media.
Due to the Gulf war, people, aside from domestic media, became aware of the news and issues thru the foreign Media as well. In reality, it has been some years that with the advent of the sattellite media, people watch and hear other opinion and narrations besides those of their own government.
The advent of Al Jazire T.V, Al Mena, Al Arabiya and Al Alam, was a turning point in the community of the Arab media. In reality, these networks lay the groundwork for the people's familiarity with other opinions.
With the expansion of the social networks, the mainstream media came under attack, for it was these from then on, it was these social networks that were having their impact on the mass media.
But social networks, despite being attractive, were facing a crisis called truth-telling Telling. For example, there were stories that came on Facebook that
Al Mayadin and Al Jazire were disseminating. These news, from one hand, were attractive and should have been disseminated and from the other hand, there was no time to ascertain their source and validity. This caused a dichotomy in these media.
In recent years, there were many news that were broadcasted in the media, whose source were social networks; the news that caused a lot of damages for the traditional media.
For example this news was circulated everywhere that Mrs Clinton, in her book has said that the United States hasbeen part of the ISIS, while this has not been true. This by itself caused that the credibility of the media which, without verifying the veracity of the news, broadcasted it, be called into question.
